KP Studio collaborated with Büro Kühl on the refurbishment and expansion of a biotechnology company’s new headquarters in Germany. The project combines a full office interior refurbishment and an extension to meet the client’s evolving research and workplace needs.

The main design strategy focused on significantly improving the usability of the existing spaces by increasing natural daylight and replacing selected solid partitions with glazed partitions to create a brighter, more contemporary and wellbeing‑focused workplace. Spatial connection was strengthened by introducing a new void between the two levels, providing visual connection and allowing light from the existing skylight to reach the ground floor.

The new extension is accessed from the Level 1 void, accommodating a multi‑function staffroom, kitchen, directors’ offices and direct connection to the new roof terrace, offering staff an outdoor space for respite and informal collaboration.

The upgrades give new life to the existing structure, enhancing its sustainability through reuse and creating a cohesive, future‑ready environment for a growing biotechnology company.
